Pre-incubation

The start-up incubator at ISU’s Central Campus is the right place to launch your space business and benefit from a multidisciplinary expertise in research & development, business and finance. The location is a hub for you to meet with ISU faculty and visiting lecturers from academia, space agencies and industry from around the world.

Incubation

An incubator has been initiated at the Central Campus of ISU to accommodate start-ups. The first start-ups have installed themselves but still a few offices are available. The creation was based upon a survey with ISU alumni. This study revealed that 80% of the recent alumni were in favor of such an ISU incubator.

It was therefore decided to create a local ecosystem in the first place to allow to provide an incubation service to alumni at the ISU campus.

The strong advantage of this localization are the resident staff but, at least equally important the many visiting lecturers. This provides not only an interesting source for advice, but also, in the case of Agency and industry related persons, a potential relationship with clients.

“Your start-up is like your child, and it requires 100% of your attention. The support of an incubator is invaluable in the early stages of growth.”

CASSINI Hackathon

ISU Selected to host the 4th CASSINI Hackathon

4-6 November 2022

On 30 June 2022, the ISU space incubator has been awarded by the European Union Agency for the Space Programme (EUSPA) the chance to be one of the hosts of the 4th CASSINI Hackathon to be held in November 2022.

In 2021, the European Commission launched the “Competitive Space Start-ups for Innovation initiative (CASSINI)” as a part of broad effort in support of space entrepreneurship for a digital and sustainable Europe. Since then, about 60 events have been hosted around Europe.

ISU will on 4 to 6 November 2022, along 9 other cities in 10 different countries across Europe host space entrepreneurs that will work with ISU experts from ISU Central Campus, ISU start-ups and the broad ISU Community on topics linked to “Space for the Financial World”. During the 4th CASSINI Hackathon, participants are challenged to reimagine to the future of finance, insurance, and investments with the help of European space technologies. Three challenges have been identified for the theme of this Hackathon initiative.

Challenge #1: Enabling green and sustainable investment

Challenge #2: Innovating financial tools and technologies

Challenge #3: Advancing global market intelligence

Nicolas Peter Head of the Space Policy and Entrepreneurship Lab (SPEL) and involved in overseeing the ISU incubator states that “For ISU and its space incubator being selected by EUSPA to organise the upcoming CASSINI Hackathon is a testament of the strength of ISU in space entrepreneurship and an acknowledgement in its role of the new space economy. We hope to make of this Hackathon a European success”.
