The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is the primary law regulating how companies protect EU citizens’ personal data.

This Privacy Policy explains how we collect data from you and what is the purpose of this. Note that on the basis of feedback this Policy may be adapted.

This note contains following information:

References to we or us refer to the International Space University (hereinafter abbreviated as ISU).
The International Space University is a private non-profit institution, formally recognized as an institute of higher education in France by the French Ministry of Education (decree MENS0400386A of 27 February 2004). ISU is also recognized as a full member of EURASHE and is in the process of adapting its programs to the Standards and guidelines for quality assurance in the European Higher Education Area (ESG).

For Privacy policy and GDPR related issues we suggest this email address.

We are the data controller of any personal information you provide to us. This means that we are responsible for complying with relevant data protection laws.

We are interested in the following information from you:
– Name, email address, postal address, phone number
– Nationality, date of birth, gender
– Affiliation with ISU (program attended, lectures provided, etc.)
– Professional contact information

All this information is important for us to allow a proper functioning of the ISU network, amongst others (but not limited to):
– Organize events per program
– Advertise our events
– Mail information to you (such as newsletters)
– Compile statistical information for our sponsors
– Inform you on opportunities of interest to your organization
– Inquire about internship opportunities
– Etc.

Exceptional searches will be done in our database for e.g.:
– To participate in Award schemes and similar industry activities
– To propose you for nominations
– To tell you about sponsorship opportunities
– To inform you on RFP proposals when looking for partners.
In this case, you will be first contacted before such information will be distributed to third parties.

We collect this information as follows:
– Via your application or other form of request from our side (such as lecturer information)
– Via updates we receive from you (on our request or on your initiative)
– Via updates we receive from third parties (such as class mates or publications)
– From Eventbrite or any other third party ticketing and/or registration platform we may use from time to time
– From Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter and any other third party social media channels we may use from time to time.

We will only store your personal information for as long as reasonably necessary to fulfil the purposes set out in this Privacy Policy and to comply with any regulatory and/or legal obligations.
Evidently we will only keep general data (like year of graduation) for statistical purposes only, but you have the right to ask us for deletion of contact data such as email address permanently.

It is both important for yourselves as well for us that personal information we hold about you is accurate and current.  This is in particular important for such aspects as:
–    Cooperation possibilities
–    Internship offers
–    Nominations for awards
–    Accurate statistical data for our sponsors
–    Keeping you informed on latest news.

Therefore, we encourage you to keep us informed if your personal information changes during your relationship with us.

Under GDPR you have the right to make certain requests in relation to the personal information that we hold about you. If you wish to exercise these rights at any time please contact us using the details set out in section 1.
You should, however, be aware that in this case a number of opportunities will not be brought anymore to your attention (such as events etc.).
There may be cases where we are not able to comply with your request (such as where this would conflict with our obligation to comply with other regulatory and/or legal requirements). However, if we cannot comply with your request, we will tell you the reason provided we are allowed to do so by law, and we will always respond to any request you make.

You are entitled to a copy of the personal information we hold about you and certain details of how we use it.

In addition, we limit access to your personal information to those third parties who have need to know (e.g. scholarship providers), with the explicit request that they shall only process your personal information on our instructions and they are subject to a duty of confidentiality. We have put in place procedures to deal with any suspected data security breach and will notify you and any applicable regulator of a breach where we are legally required to.
